If you follow these instructions you could increase the lifetime
of your new floor and keep it looking great for years to come.


Carpet

  • Vacuum regularly to keep soil from becoming embedded in the carpet's pile where its more diffiucult to remove.
  • Light-traffic areas: Vacuum weekly
  • Moderate to heavy traffic areas: Vacuum two to five times weekly
  • Sprouts: Don't pull them, just clip them off with scissors
  • Snags: Don't pull them, just clip it off with scissors
  • Dents: Remove dent by stroking it with the edge of a coin.
  • Crushed pile: Vacuum regularly with a "beater-bar" type vacuum.
  • Burns: If minor clip burned fibers off, but if it is extensive replacement is needed.
  • Shedding: Common with new cut pile carpet. Will stop after a few weeks of regular vacuuming
  • Footprints: All cut pile carpets show footprints. To minimize them choose a very dense, low pile carpet.
  • Spot Removal: Blot up liquid with white cloth. Use plain water first to clean spot. Use spot cleaners sparingly. Do not scrub in a circular motion. Place dry towel on wet spot to pull out extra moisture.
  • Remove solid materials with a tablespoon, spatula, or dull knife.
  • Hardwood

  • The worst enemies of your floor are water, soap, and sand.
  • Use a damp cloth or the care products recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Vacuum or use microfiber "Swiffer" style mop regularly.
  • Keep the average relative humidity at about 45%.
  • Use cleaners made for hardwood sparingly.
  • Use walk off mats at entrance doors to catch grit that will scar your floor.
  • Ceramic Tile

  • Wipe glazed wall wiles periodically using a cloth or sponge dampened with non-abrasive household cleaner.
  • Commonly available tile cleaning products can remove soap scum, hard-water deposits, and mildew stains. These products can be found at local supermarkets.
  • Prior to usage, consult the manufacturer of the cleaner, cleanser, or detergent for more detailed use and the impact on the tile.
  • Do not use wax cleaners as it may result in loss of slip resistance.
  • Do have a broken or damage tile removed and replaced by a professional only.
  • Do not use a cleaning agent that contains color on unglazed tile.
  • Laminate

  • Micro fiber "Swiffer" style mops work well on laminate.
  • Use any non-abrasive, soap-free cleaner on a regular basis.
  • Footprints and dirts easily wipe away with a moist cloth.
  • Remove wet spills immediately to avoid liquid penetration into seams.
  • Use felt protectors under furniture and replace all hard plastic or metal rollers on furniture with soft rubber rollers.
  • Be cautious when moving large appliances such as refridgerators, ranges, etc.
  • Use protective mats at exterior entrances and in heavy traffic areas.
  • Don't use "mop-and-shine" products. They'll leave a dull film. Never wax or polish the floor.
